Abstract
A survey of Okitankwo River along border Communities were conducted in order to establish the current levels of pollution. Attempt was made to show the relationship between pollution levels, agricultural activities, and population density. The pH value, electrical conductivity, temperature, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids, dissolved oxygen, BOD, hardness ions, alkalinity, anionics and cationics were analyzed for the river along the border communities. The results were evaluated in the light of the World Health Organization standards and the water was found unfit for humans due to the high pollution index. A preventive measure for checking pollution levels in rapid growing communities has been emphasized.
