LABORATORY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
LABORATORY QUALITY SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION
The department has an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited Laboratory and we are working toward upgrading to ISO 17025:2017. Our Laboratory focuses on putting in place a management system that is audited annually to support an ethic that sustains and develops the technical competencies of a laboratory like ours. We hope to sustain this.
GLOBAL ROLES:
The Laboratory Services department is responsible for planning and technical coordination of hands-on training on various analytical methods and techniques. The department also has the mandate to collaborate with local and international organizations; and assist the Institute in fulfilling its mandate towards its members and government in the area of training, examination(s), low-cost product analysis across regulated items; and workshops.
The department in collaboration with the Education/Training department organizes the Institute's training for all levels of candidates (Foundation, PE I and PE II professional Examinations) between the month of April and September every year.
FOCUS OF THE DEPARTMENT:
The following focus of the department listed below aims to assist the vision of the Institute and consequently the overall intentions of government towards health care delivery: this will be achieved by;
- Collaborating with other laboratories in their area of competence;
- Organize Proficiency Testing (PT)/Inter Laboratory Comparision (ILC) tests between Public Analysts laboratories; official national laboratories, other competent third-party laboratories and ensure an appropriate follow-up of such comparative testing;
- Provide scientific and technical assistance to the government for the implementation of coordinated control plans adopted in accordance with the operation of IPAN and in line with the mandate, vision, and statutory enablements of the laboratory (see IPAN enabling law);
- Be responsible for carrying out other specific duties introduced by the Federal Ministry of Health without prejudice to existing additional national duties.
