COMPARATIVE STUDY OF GENERIC EQUIVALENCE OF SOME ARTESUNATE BRANDS MARKETED IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Artesunate is widely used to combat plasmodium falciparum resistant to other antimalarial drugs. Presently many brands of artesunate have flooded the market. Therefore, there is need to monitor their quality. Analysis of different brands of artesunate tablets were carried out using a colorimetric technique and taking absorbance at 420nm. The results showed that two brands complied with the 90-110% drug content specification of the International Pharmacopoeia. The method is simple, fast and effective and can be adopted for analysis of biological fluids.
